Starting next month, the new top federal prosecutor in Detroit will be Saima Mohsin, the first Muslim to be a U.S. attorney in Michigan and the country, according to federal officials and Muslim advocates.

On Feb. 2, Mohsin, 52, is to become the acting U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan after the current U.S. attorney for the district, Matthew Schneider, steps down on Feb. 1. Serving for three years, Schneider announced his resignation on Thursday and said Mohsin, currently the first assistant U.S. attorney for eastern Michigan, will replace him.

On 21 January 2021, on behalf of Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, the first Deputy Chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation, D. Mukhetdinov, took part in a meeting of the Interreligious Council of Russia. The special guest of the meeting was the High Representative of the UN General Secretary for the Alliance of Civilizations, Mr. Miguel Angel Moratinos.

In Japan, the number of Muslims has grown dramatically over the past decade, as more and more people convert to Islam.

The head of Diyanet, Turkey’s directorate of religious affairs, on Sunday slammed the Greek archbishop’s insulting remarks against Islam and Muslims, calling on Christians to oppose this “sick mentality”.
