Damir Mukhetdinov made a report at an international online conference on the theme "The significance of the scientific heritage of Abu Muin Nasafi in the present time"
Today, the first Deputy of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the Muslim International Forum, Rector of the Moscow Islamic Institute (MII), Doctor of Theology, Professor Damir Mukhetdinov spoke at an international online conference on the theme "The significance of the scientific heritage of Abu Muin Nasafi in the present time".

The event, organized by the Office of Muslims of Uzbekistan, was attended by scientists-theologians from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Greeted the participants of the conference on behalf of the head of the RBM RF, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, Damir Mukhetdinov expressed sincere condolences on behalf of the Muslims of Russia on the death of Mufti of Uzbekistan Usmankhon Alimov and spoke highly about the contribution and role of the Office of Muslims of Uzbekistan in the revival of classical theological works in modern times. "In recent years, very close, serious, systematic attention has been paid to the study of the heritage of the ulema of Central Asia and the ulema of Uzbekistan, because both the Hanafi teaching and the teaching of Maturidism are especially widespread on the territory of Russia and have had an influence on the formation of a way of thinking, an image of worship among Russian Muslims for more than a thousand years," the speaker said.

According to Damir Mukhetdinov, the doctrine of Maturidism – the third largest branch of classical kalam – still needs special historical and philosophical coverage. "Despite the fact that the Maturidite doctrine, which developed in the course of the medieval polemics with the Mu'tazilites and Asharites, is still alive in the Sunni environment. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the academic community pays little attention to the legacy of the founder of this school and his followers," he stressed.

Abu Mu'in al-Nasafi left behind about eight major treatises devoted to various fields of theology, and several dozen followers, famous students of the Hanafi Madhhab, philosophers and hadith scholars. "Today, the Kalamic teaching of an-Nasafi is known from three of his works, which have been repeatedly commented on by the authorities of Maturidism: "A sea of words about the basics of religion", "The study of evidence in the basics of religion" and "Introduction to the rules of monotheism"... Currently, the Duma of the Russian Federation, MII, the Center for Islamic Studies of St. Petersburg State University have translated into Russian for the first time and prepared for publication a treatise "A sea of words about the basics of religion", which was apparently written by an-Nasafi at the very beginning of his creative path. This small essay is designed not so much to comprehensively present the thinker's doctrine, but to serve as a guide for students of madrasah who have recently started studying kalam and apologetic disciplines, " the rector of the MII noted.

According to Damir Mukhetdinov, the topic of maturidism, the topic of kalama became best known in Russian religious schools only in recent years. A large number of imams in the 1990s received religious education in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and other educational centres, which gave absolutely secondary attention to the matturistic school. We are only at the beginning of the journey to revive, rethink and understand its values. Behind the teachings of al-Nasafi a great contribution and a great future», - concluded the first deputy of the RBM RF and expressed readiness to actively cooperate with scientists of both Uzbekistan and other republics in popularizing the heritage of great scientists and mutakallims of Islam.
