Grand opening of the Year of History and Culture of the Lithuanian Tatars in Lithuania
Yesterday, the grand opening of the Year of History and Culture of the Lithuanian Tatars took place in the Main Hall of the Palace of Rulers in Vilnius. The Muslims of Russia were represented at the event by the acting chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation, Rector of the Moscow Islamic Institute, Executive Secretary of the Muslim International Forum Damir Mukhetdinov, who congratulated the participants and guests of the ceremony on behalf of Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin and of the general secretariat of the Muslim International Forum.

The President of the Republic of Lithuania was represented at the ceremony by his adviser, and the assistant was present on behalf of the Prime Minister. In addition, the event was attended by Deputy Speaker of the Seimas Jonas Yarutis, ambassadors of a number of foreign countries, a delegation of the European Muslim Forum headed by Abdul-Vahed Niyazov, First Secretary General of the Council of Muslims of Great Britain Sir Iqbal Sakranie, Mufti of Poland Thomas Mickiewicz, head of Muslims of Latvia Zufar Zainullin, representatives of the Tatar and Muslim community of Lithuania and neighboring states, guests and media representatives.

The main word and speech was given to the chairman of the Union of Tatar Communities of Lithuania, Professor Adas Yakubauskas.

During the celebration, greetings were read out by the President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda, the Prime Minister of the country Ingrida Shimonite and the Speaker of the Seimas Victoria Chmilite-Nelson.
In addition, the Mufti of the Muslims of Lithuania Romas Yakubauskas delivered congratulatory words at the event, and on behalf of the European Muslim Forum, the imam of the Khatib Mosque of Rome, Dr. Nader Akkad, welcomed the guests and participants.

In honor of the 700th anniversary of the presence of Tatars in Lithuania, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania adopted a resolution declaring 2021 the Year of History and Culture of the Lithuanian Tatars.
