Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin met with the Ambassador of Tunisia to the Russian Federation Tarek bin Salam
On 16th of September, at the residence of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, the Chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation (RBM RF) and Russia Mufties Council, the General Secretary of the Muslim International Forum Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tunisia Mr. Tarek bin Salam. The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Chairman of the RBM RF,Executive Secretary of the Muslim International Forum Damir Mukhetdinov, Deputy Chairman of the RBM RF for International Affairs Rushan Abbyasov and the head of the International Department of the RBM RF Ildar Galeev.

Welcoming the distinguished guest, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin noted that traditionally friendly Russian-Tunisian relations are closely intertwined with the threads of history. As an example, the Mufti mentioned 1920, when about six thousand of our compatriots, including Muslims, arrived in the hospitable lands of Tunisia, where they settled and subsequently made a significant contribution to the scientific, social and cultural life of the country. The head of the RBM RF and the RMC added that along with the development of public diplomacy, official diplomacy also developed, and this year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two states.

During the conversation, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin stressed that today Tunisia is one of Russia's leading partners in Africa and the Middle East, and that within the framework of this partnership there is a constant exchange of views on the current situation in North Africa in the context of consolidating international efforts to counter extremism and terrorism. The Mufti also expressed gratitude to Mr. Ambassador for the fact that Tunisia was among the first African states to register the Russian vaccine "Sputnik V", recognized by the Council of Ulema of the RBM RF as halal. At the same time, he added that this indicates the responsible attitude of the Tunisian authorities to the health of their citizens and the high level of trust in Russia.

Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin also told Mr. Tarek bin Salam about public diplomacy between the peoples of Russia and Tunisia, a significant contribution to the development of which is made by the Russian Ummah. In particular, the Mufti spoke about his productive visit to Tunisia, after which Tunisian hafiz began to participate annually in the Moscow International Competition of Koran reciters, winning prizes. The head of the RBM RF and the RMC also mentioned close contacts in the theological and charitable spheres, regular interaction with the Embassy of Tunisia in Moscow. In the context of the above, the mufti noted that cooperation in the historical and cultural sphere is also very important, and next year it can receive a significant impetus within the framework of events on the occasion of the 1100th anniversary of the official adoption of Islam by the peoples of Volga Bulgaria, and invited Mr. Ambassador and through him the relevant departments of the Tunisian government to participate in them.

For his part, Mr. Ambassador highly appreciated the activities of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation under the leadership of Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, stressing that the efforts of Russian Muslims in popularizing the peaceful essence of Islam are exemplary and worthy of imitation.

At the end of the meeting, the sides expressed confidence that cooperation for the benefit of peoples and countries will only multiply and cover all new areas.
