450-year-old handwritten Quran found in historic Turkish mosque
On the territory of the historical Sultan Selim mosque in the Karapinar district in Konya, 10 juz (parts) of a copy of the Quran were found, which donated by the Ottoman Sultan Selim II.

Mufti Karapinar Yunus Aydin said that they were very surprised when they found the handwritten verses of the Quran.

Aydin added that the 10 manuscripts of the Quran found in the mosque, which was built by the Ottoman Sultan Selim II, are very valuable. The value of the found materials was also confirmed by Professor Mustafa Amar from the Faculty of Theology of Ankara University.

As experts found out, Quran was a gift that the Sultan left in the city of Karapinar. On inside back cover, "Vakfu'l-merhum es-Sultan Selim Han, Medine-i Karapınar" (Bequeathed to the city of Karapinar by Sultan Selim Khan) is written in Talik script. The mushaf itself is written in naskh script, and the beginnings and ends of surahs are written in Tulut script (Tulut, meaning one-third, is so called because one-third of each letter is tilted. The calligrapher who made the inscriptions is unknown.

An interesting fact is that none of the employees of the mosque knew about the existence of such an old manuscript, which had been stored in a warehouse for a long time. It is not known whether this is a complete Quran.

The head of the Cem Murat district noted that the historical mosque is one of the most important and valuable architectural objects in the region. He also stressed that thanks to the efforts of the mufti and our colleagues, a very valuable manuscript was found in the archive of the mosque, which was written somewhere in the 1500s and this is a very important find for the region.
