Ahmad al-Dubayan: Russia has a unique experience of coexistence
10th December 2020, the XVI Muslim International Forum "The culture of encounter: religious ethics during the pandemic" was held online on the platform of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation. Ahmed al-Dubayan, Director General of the Islamic cultural center of London, highly appreciated the experience and efforts of the organizers.
"All these activities somehow demonstrate how important peace, justice and openness, human rights, mutual understanding of all communities and all faiths are for all of us. In addition, today, thanks to the development of technology, we have become even closer, and we hope that the understanding between Muslims and non – Muslims will only strengthen, "said Dr. al-Dubayan. – Now they are talking about international values that are the same for all religions. But the main problem facing the world is that the levels of mutual understanding between religious leaders and in the political sphere are very different."
The speaker also noted the example of the Russian state, where historically there was a peaceful cultural exchange between representatives of different faiths. "Russia, I am sure, has a unique experience: many millions of Muslims share the same space with Christians and representatives of other religions, especially in the Eastern part of the country. They live in harmony, which, unfortunately, is not observed everywhere in the world." I hope that thanks to your efforts, your understanding, we will be able to convey this to high political circles, " he said.
Ahmad al-Dubayan called on representatives of various faiths to return to their common values and recalled the Koranic saying: "We created you as peoples and tribes so that you would know each other..." (49:13).

According to the speaker, it logically follows that we cannot get to know each other until we reach a certain level of mutual understanding. We must not only hope, but also trust. Trust is one of the most important challenges we face.
"For us, the problem of identity of young generations is relevant. This is a matter not only for the UK, but for communities around the world. Young generations should unite and represent themselves in society. Without trust, identity problems will only get worse. I hope that we will be able to work together not only on motivation, but also to take action," concluded the General Director of the Islamic cultural center of London.
