Anas Sarwar: UK’s first Muslim to lead a party follows in family footsteps
Anas Sarwar continued the family tradition by becoming the first Muslim in the UK to lead the party.

Sarwar's father, Mohammed, was the first Muslim MP elected in Glasgow in 1997 before becoming governor of the Punjab region in his native Pakistan.

The younger Sarwar has been elected Scottish Labour leader, beating fellow MSP Monica Lennon by 57.6% to 42.4%.

It is worth pointing out that despite the racist threats and abuse, Sarwar left his job as a dentist in 2010 to enter the world of politics.
