Hajj 2021. Saudi Arabia hopes to host as many pilgrims as possible.
The format of the Hajj in 2021 will be determined by Saudi Arabia based on the situation with the coronavirus pandemic in all countries from which the pilgrims come, and will most likely not be finalized until June.

This was stated by the General Consul of the Russian Federation in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) Bagavudin Aliyev, during a meeting with the religious leader of Russian Muslims, General Secretary of the Muslim International Forum Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin at his residence in the Moscow Cathedral Mosque on 28th of January.

In a conversation with the press service of the RBM RF, the Russian diplomat said that currently the Saudi authorities, jointly with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other international organizations, are working on the preparation of the Hajj season in 2021.The situation with the coronavirus pandemic in Saudi Arabia, according to Bagavudin Aliyev, is more prosperous than in other countries, but the format of the Hajj organization in 2021 will be determined based on the situation with the pandemic in all countries from which pilgrims come.

Currently, the final decision on the format of the organization of the Hajj for the upcoming season has not been made and it is most likely to be expected no earlier than May-June 2021.

At the same time, according to the General Consul of the Russian Federation in Jeddah, the Saudi side is determined to accept the maximum number of believers in compliance with all possible precautions.

Speaking about the experience of 2020, which was one of the most difficult in terms of organizing the pilgrimage, Bagavudin Aliyev emphasized the high level achieved by the Saudi authorities in conducting the Hajj. The pilgrimage was not canceled, but the number of pilgrims was radically reduced and all of them were accepted as guests of the king, i.e. their stay in the holy places was organized by the royal protocol service. As a confirmation of the effectiveness of the security measures taken, the diplomat said that in 2020, during the hadj, none of the pilgrims contracted coronavirus infection.

During the discussion of the working moments of Hadj for all Muslims in Russia, Mr. Aliyev stated that it is almost impossible to organize the Hadj without close cooperation between religious organizations of Russia, the Russian Hajj mission, Authorized by Hajj Affairs of the Russian Government and the Russian Consulate in Jeddah, which is the main coordinator between the Ministry of Hajj of Saudi Arabia and the Russian Hajj Mission. He noted the high level of cooperation between these structures.
