In 2030, there will be two Ramadans a year

This is not something unusual, it's just related to the use of the lunar calendar.

Ramadan, before the advent of the high-precision telescope, could be observed by looking at the new moon. The lunar calendar and Moon cycles are what determine when Ramadan will come.

However, the peculiarity of the lunar month is that it moves forward 10-11 days each year. This means that in 2030, Ramadan will fall in January, and then again in December.

Hassan Ahmed Al Hariri, chief executive of the Dubai Astronomical Group, said that observing two Ramadans in one year should not be considered a phenomenon, as the lunar month moves forward by 11 days each year.

"The solar calendar and the lunar calendar work separately from each other and are different from each other. The solar calendar is fixed by the sun, while the lunar calendar is always 11 days shorter. So having two Ramadans is a natural result of having two different calendars, "Al-Hariri said.

Calendars were created by humans so that we could use them as a reference point and to count the time. People should take two Ramadans as something natural, " he said.

Ramadan is expected to be celebrated in early January, and Eid Al-Fitr in early February, followed by Ramadan at the end of the year immediately in December.
