On 8th of June, 2021, the Federation Council hosted a meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on the preparation of the World Conference on Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue scheduled for May 16-18, 2022, chaired by Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev.

The event was also attended by First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Ilyas Umakhanov, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Grigory Karasin, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration for Domestic Policy Mikhail Belousov, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports, Tourism and National Policy of the Government of the Russian Federation Olga Koroleva, Head of Rossotrudnichestvo Evgeny Primakov, representatives of federal executive authorities, religious figures. Russian Muslims were represented in the working group by the acting Chairman of the RBM RF, the executive secretary of the Muslim International Forum, Doctor of Theology, Professor Damir Mukhetdinov and the Deputy Chairman of the RBM RF for Internal Affairs Ravil Seifetdinov.

Damir Mukhetdinov, one of the two Russian Muslim religious leaders who joined the organizing committee of the World Conference in accordance with the order of the President of the Russian Federation, conveyed greetings to the audience on behalf of the religious leader of Russian Muslims, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin. The World Conference coincides with the solemn events organized in 2022 on the initiative of Mufti Gaynutdin and with the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of the 1100th anniversary of the official adoption of Islam by the peoples of Volga Bulgaria. The Acting Chairman of the Duma of the Russian Federation noted the potential for conveying the meanings laid down in the celebration of a major anniversary at the World Conference. In particular, he stressed that Volga Bulgaria was the first state in Europe to adopt Islam voluntarily. Thus, the tradition of coexistence of Islam and Christianity in the territory of the modern Russian Federation has more than a thousand years."We need to show the unique Russian experience. The experience of 1,100 years of peaceful existence of Islam on the territory of the Russian Federation," said Damir Mukhetdinov.

The religious leader's emphasis on the conceptual combination of these events was also reflected in the purpose of the conference voiced by Konstantin Kosachev – to tell about the Russian experience of intercultural and interreligious interaction.

As Damir Mukhetdinov assured, the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation intends to take an active part in the organization of the World Conference, taking into account the rich experience of holding a number of international events in Europe and in Russia. In particular, with the blessing of Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, the Muslim International Forum, whose meetings are held in the Eurasian space, brings together representatives of the Muslim world and other religious traditions, conducts systematic activities for intra-Islamic and inter-religious dialogue.
