Muslims set up free clinic in Detroit
For many years, many Muslim clinics in the United States have been helping those who are can't pay for medical services.

The Huda Clinic in Detroit is one example; it has provided basic medical and psychological services to low-income populations in Detroit and Hamtramck for nearly two decades.

The first free clinic opened the doors in 2004. It was located in the Masjid Muslim center and subsequently expanded several times.

The name HUDA (Health Unit on Davison Avenue) arose from the need to inform the general public that the help is intended to serve all the people who need it.

"Only after this - Muslim community began to show us more respect and attention, which is sad, but true," says Zaid Sheikh (founder and CEO of the clinic).

The clinic currently provides primary health care services, dental and ophthalmic services, psychiatric care, and specialized care such as cardiology and pediatrics. There's even a free pharmacy, health and nutrition training, and etc.

In addition to primary and psychiatric care, HUDA also cares for the needs of the surrounding communities and the well-being of its neighbors.

"We have a huge number of African - Americans here," Zaid Sheikh said. "I want that they, especially representatives of the younger generation, feel at home here. This is their place. We have an integrated environment here, I want the neighborhood children to come here and work as volunteers and learn that the healthcare profession is an honorable profession. We can give them what they want."
