Hassan Hanafi, a professor of philosophy at Cairo University, died on 21st of October at the age of 86. The Supreme Imam of Egypt's Al-Azhar University, Ahmad al-Tayyib, was one of the first to express his condolences.

Hassan Hanafi was an outstanding, modern Egyptian philosopher and publicist. He was also the ex-dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at Cairo University. His dissertation "The Exegesis of Phenomenology" (1977), which defended the applied value of intuitionism in the study and philosophical understanding of Muslim culture, brought him world fame.

It is worth saying that Hanafi was one of the authors of the open letter "A common word between us and you." This open letter was also signed by the Chairman of the RBM RF, General Secretary of the Muslim International Forum Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin.

The document calls for peace and mutual understanding between Muslims and Christians in accordance with the precepts of the Quran. In 2008, he was awarded the British Association of Muslim Sociologists Award.

The MIF Secretariat grieves over the death of an outstanding scientist and expresses condolences to his family, friends, like-minded people and students.
