Russia cherishes the long-standing, deep-rooted relations with the Islamic world, which are now tending to expand. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this on 17th December at the annual press conference.

"As for the Arab world, the Islamic world, we have traditional relations with these countries and organizations. Russia is an observer in some of the most prestigious international Islamic organizations. Relations with the Arab world are traditional both for the Soviet Union and for today's Russian Federation, "  the head of state reminded. -  Now the scale and geography of our cooperation with the Islamic world and the Arab world have become much wider. We value this very much and will continue to develop these relations."

Vladimir Putin recently instructed the executive authorities, with the participation of interested religious organizations, to submit proposals for the celebration in 2022 of the 1100th anniversary of the official adoption of Islam by the peoples of the Volga Bulgaria. The historic event that took place in the Volga region in 922. is one of the examples of the trustful diplomatic relations between the state in the territory of the modern Russian Federation and the Islamic world, the center of which was then Baghdad, the capital of the caliphate.
