Presidential Library: The Embodiment of Modern Muslim Civilization
The Presidential Library is currently the largest library in Turkey and has a extensive collection of books. It was officially opened by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on 20th of February 2020.

The library, built on an area of 125,000 square meters inside the Presidential Complex, accommodates 5,000 visitors.

Library in Medieval Muslim History

The formation of the library in Islamic history occurred due to the importance of creating, publishing and gathering books among Muslims.

Books are a valuable source of knowledge, and the culture of reading is a part of Islamic teachings that contribute to the education of an informed and educated person.

The most prominent libraries in the history of Islam were Bayt al-Hikma in Baghdad, also known as the House of Wisdom or the Great Library of Baghdad, and Dar al-Hikma or the Hall of Wisdom in Cairo. There were also other private libraries, such as Hasan al-Hikma, owned by al-Fatah ibn Hakan, the library of Adu da al-Dawla and the library of Caliph al-Aziz Billah.

It is worth noting that the library was considered one of the places where teaching and learning took place before the appearance of the madrasah.

Therefore, the library in Islamic history plays the role not only of a center for gathering, keeping and distributing books, but also of a place for carrying out scientific activities.

Library as a symbol of civilization

In the center of the main hall, which is called Cihannuma (world atlas), there is a huge globe. It is interesting that under the arches of this hall, there is an inscription in Turkish of the fourth and fifth verses of Surah al-Alak, the 96th chapter of the Quran. The inscription translates as: "He is the One who taught writing with a pen, taught a man what he did not know”"

These are some of the first verses that were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad about the meaning of reading and writing.

Thousands of books belonging to different civilizations have been preserved and passed on to subsequent generations in libraries of the past, such as Bayt al-Hikma and Dar al-Hikma, which glorified the classical Muslim era. The Presidential Library of Turkey, being a source of the passage of time, has millions of resources with which it transmits knowledge and culture to future generations for the further development of modern Muslim civilization.
