Religious and spiritual monuments are being restored in Shusha
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva arrived on 7th of November in the city of Shusha, where they laid the foundation of the Dashalti Mosque.

The distinguished guests also got acquainted with the restoration work carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation at the Ashagi Govhar Agha Mosque.

The mosques of Ashaga Govhar Agha, Yukhara Govhar Agha and Saatli, destroyed during the occupation of Shusha, are being restored in accordance with the original project. All three mosques are included in the list of historical and cultural monuments of national significance. Last year, experts from Azerbaijan, Austria, Italy, Latvia and Turkey conducted assessment work in these mosques and developed a restoration project. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has already completed the first stage of restoration work in the historic mosque of Yukhara Govhar Agha.

Currently, the mosque is undergoing restoration work on the second stage. At this stage, strengthening works will be carried out in the mosque with the condition of preserving its original appearance, it is also planned to restore the destroyed madrasah located on the territory of the mosque. The largest restoration work in accordance with the scale of the destruction will be carried out at the Ashagi Govhar Agha Mosque. It is planned to restore the minarets of mosques, as well as replace the roof and floors.
