The meeting was also attended by the First Deputy Chairman of the RBM RF, the rector of the Moscow Islamic Institute, the executive secretary of the Muslim International Forum Damir Mukhetdinov and the head of the International Department of the RBM RF Ildar Galeev.

This year- 19th of February marked the 95th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Saudi Arabia. The diplomatic mission of Mr. Abdel Rahman bin Suleiman al-Ahmad began soon before this significant date in the history of relations between the two states – on 24th of November, 2020, he presented his credentials to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

Mufti Gaynutdin warmly welcomed the Ambassador and noted the long history of cooperation and religious communication between the Russian Federation and the KSA, the most important aspect of which is the Hajj.

"Thanks to the established direct dialogue between President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz, bilateral relations have been given a special dynamic," said Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, religious leader of the Muslims of Russia.

"It is gratifying that contacts and connections with the relevant departments of Saudi Arabia are actively developing, and close cooperation is being built with international Islamic organizations located on the territory of the KSA, such as the World Islamic League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation," Mufti Gaynutdin said.

Mufti Gaynutdin familiarized the head of the KSA diplomatic mission with the international activities of the RBM RF, spoke about the project of the Muslim International Forum, which is an initiative of Russian Muslims. Both European countries, as well as countries of the Islamic and Arab world, including Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and others, take part in the formation and activities of the MIF. The religious leaders of these countries are active participants and speak at the annual meetings of the forum, which are held in different capitals of European states. The head of the RBM RF invited the ambassador to also participate in the work of this forum.

In addition, Mufti Gaynutdin informed Mr. Abdel Rahman bin Suleiman al-Ahmad about the readiness of the Russian side to implement the "road map" of cooperation between the RBM RF and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs Appeal and Instruction of the KSA in the field of Islamic culture and religious, the agreements on which were reached during a personal meeting with Minister Abdulatif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh in November 2019.

One of the main topics of the meeting was the discussion of the celebration of the 1100th anniversary of the official adoption of Islam by the peoples of Volga Bulgaria. The issue of celebrating this important date for Russian Muslims was raised during an online meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the leaders of Russia's largest religious associations on 4th of November, 2020, Mufti Gaynutdin. V. Putin supported the idea and instructed the Government of the Russian Federation to prepare together with the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan, with the participation of interested religious organizations, and to submit proposals for celebrating this important anniversary.

It is worth pointing out that this is a big event not only for Russian Muslims, but also an international event. It stresses that Islam is part of its culture and its civilization. In the north-eastern part of European civilization, Islam became the official religion 11 centuries ago and was adopted voluntarily.

"We invite the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Appeal and Instruction of Saudi Arabia to actively participate in the celebrations on the occasion of this anniversary," Mufti Gaynutdin said.

In turn, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Saudi Arabia to Moscow, Mr. Abdel Rahman Al-Ahmad, noted that at the beginning of his diplomatic mission in Russia, it is extremely important for him to visit the residence of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation, meet with Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin and exchange views on current issues.
