The study found that the number of mosques in the United States continues to grow
The Institute for Social Policy and Understanding (ISPU), the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), and the Center for Muslim Philanthropy have jointly published an extensive study on the characteristics of mosques in the United States.

The report is the result of a comprehensive statistical study of mosques located in the United States. The survey is conducted every 10 years to coincide with the national census.

The report shows that Muslim communities in the United States are undergoing an evolution, and in this regard, they have received such important results as the continued growth in the number of mosques and their increased attendance, an increase in the number of imams of American origin, but at the same time there has been an increase in the level of opposition from officials and local residents.

The report also indicates that the number of mosques continues to grow; in 2020, there were 2,769 mosques in the United States, compared to 2,106 mosques in 2010. According to it, the main driving force behind the increase in the number of mosques is the steady increase in the number of Muslims in America due to immigration and the birth rate.

But mosques are also becoming more suburban. A significant reduction occurred in the number of mosques located in cities and small towns, as well as in the central areas of large cities. The number of mosques in cities and small towns declined from 20 percent in 2010 to 6 percent in 2020.

It is also worth noting that the Juma prayer, or Friday prayer, was attended by an average of 410 people in 2020, compared to 353 in 2010, an increase of 16 percent. Almost 72 percent of mosques recorded a 10 percent or more increase in Juma attendance.
