UAE independence day
Exactly 50 years ago, the heads of the six Emirates of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Umm al-Quwain, Fujairah and Ajman came together in Dubai to form the world's first Arab federation. The seventh emirate, Ras al Khaimah, joined the alliance three months later in 1972, officially creating the modern United Arab Emirates.
The unification of the independent emirates of the UAE has allowed the nation to use natural resources, transforming the newly created country over the past half century.
By tradition, on this day, all buildings are decorated with national flags. Over 200 nationalities call the UAE their home, and celebrate the achievements of the state in all spheres on this day.
