International Conference on Islamic Education in Almaty
On 27th of May, Acting Chairman of the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation, Rector of the Moscow Islamic Institute, Executive Secretary of the Muslim International Forum, Professor Damir Mukhetdinov, who was on a visit to Almaty, spoke at the plenary session of the international conference "The Role of Religious Education in Strengthening National Spiritual Unity", dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Nur-Mubarak University and conveyed congratulations on behalf of the religious leader of Russian Muslims, Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin.
The event was attended by leading experts of scientific communities, scientists and public figures who have made a significant contribution to the development of the University, including representatives of the Ministry of Waqfs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Ministry of Higher Education of Egypt, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, the UN, the rector of universities and educational institutions from Indonesia, Azerbaijan, Kuwait, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and others. Being the only participant from Russia, Damir Mukhetdinov represented both the Muslim community of Russia and the Russian academic science represented by St. Petersburg State University and Center for Islamic Studies.
The conference participants assessed the main problems of religious education in the development of national religious integrity in the years of independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as the achievements and role of Nur-Mubarak University in implementation. The conference also considered the main trends in the global and religious situation in the Republic of Kazakhstan, modern problems of Islamic and religious education and directions of state policy in the sphere of religions, as well as the relationship between national and Islamic identity.
On 26th of May, on the first day of his visit to Almaty, Damir Mukhetdinov met with the Chairman of the Board – Rector of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Professor Zhanseit Tuimebayev and delivered a lecture on "Renewal of faith as a task of modernity: the context and future of the XXI century" to members of the university's faculty, doctoral students of the Russian Academy of Sciences, graduate students and undergraduates of the university.
