21st December 2020, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Religious Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation (RBM RF) represented by Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, Chairman of the RBM RF and Russia Mufties Council (RMC), and the Egyptian Fatwa Affairs Department and the General Secretariat of Fatwa departments and agencies in the countries of the world represented by the Supreme Mufti of Egypt Shawki Allam. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Egypt to the Russian Federation Ihab Nasser also took part in the solemn event.

According to the document, the sides agreed to cooperate in holding joint scientific conferences, forums related to theological studies, fatwas, and dedicated to discussing issues of countering the ideas of extremism and terrorism.

Russia cherishes the long-standing, deep-rooted relations with the Islamic world, which are now tending to expand. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this on 17th December at the annual press conference.
